John, a devoted dad of 3 from Gloucester, has Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and urgently needs a stem cell transplant. But right now, he has no perfect match – and time is running out. ⌛
"When I did get told about the diagnosis I was shocked and overwhelmed. All I was thinking was that I need to beat this for my family," shares John. "My life has been turned upside down with long hospital stays - I don’t see my kids anywhere near as much as when I’m home, which is the hardest part of life.”
John’s family is on a mission to add more potential lifesavers to the stem cell register – to give hope to John and others like him.
John's brother, Bobby, explains: "The best chance of finding a match is through the stem cell register, and we’re searching for donors - especially those with Croatian-British heritage, as a genetic match is key.
"If you can’t register, please share this post - the more people who see it, the better the chances of finding a match. Every share, every new donor brings us closer to giving John the treatment he needs."
John adds: "To find a donor would give me the option for a transplant and a better chance that the leukaemia will not come back.
"To someone who has not joined the donor register yet I would say: join as you could save a life! I would be ecstatic if a stranger saved my life."
