DKMS UK recently launched our Spring Appeal for 2026, aiming to raise vital funds to help us register as many potential stem cell donors as possible and help more patients find the lifesaving matches they urgently need.
Every 14 minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with a blood cancer, and for many, a stem cell transplant is their only chance at survival.
Yet, thousands of patients are still searching for their perfect match.
When brothers Cezar and David were both diagnosed with Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome, their family’s life was ripped apart. Now, they both need stem cell transplants and are relying on the stem cell register to find matching donors.
What makes their journey even more difficult is that they unfortunately face unequal odds in their search for a donor because of their Romanian heritage. Patients are much more likely to find a lifesaving match from someone with a similar ethnic background as them, but unfortunately, there are simply not enough people on the register.
If more people from underrepresented backgrounds joined the register, more patients like Cezar and David could find their lifesaving match.
Their story has already inspired hundreds of people to join the stem cell register, but they still need your help.
By giving a money donation to DKMS UK today, you’ll help us add more potential lifesavers to the register – particularly those from underrepresented communities – giving children like Cezar and David a chance at survival.
“Your donation will help fund the registration of potential lifesavers that could change the odds for families like mine,” shares their mum, Marcela, who unfortunately faces the reality of this health equality with her boys.
Your gift could help DKMS cover the £40 it costs us to register each potential new donor and give families like Cezar and David's an extra chance at hope.
Give money today and help create a more diverse register, because every child deserves an equal chance at life.
